We hebben t deze dagen erg druk met plannen maken en dingen regelen voor ons nieuwe huis. En ook dromen natuurlijk. Voor nu en later:

Omdat Sven lievelingskleur blauw is vroeg ik tijdens de afwas: als je later je eigen huis hebt, ga je dan alles in t blauw kopen? Waarop Sven zei: Dan heb ik een heel lelijk huis! Ik: waarom? Sven: Zou jij t leuk vinden als je hele huis blauw was?

Toen we Olav vroegen welk huisdier hij later wilde hebben zei hij: dan neem ik een kever want die ruimt zelf zijn poep op.

Verder staat hier veel in t teken van China vanwege de Olympische spelen. Ik help mee met de artlessen op school en er zijn al vliegers, vuurwerk, drakenboten en Chinese tekens gemaakt. Olav en Sven hebben alletwee een keer op school een Chinese lunch gehad met noodles, fried rice, loempia’s en fortune cookies.

We hebben geen idee hoe NL het met de spelen doet. Daarvan krijgen we hier weinig mee. Omdat t tijdsverschil met China niet zo groot is kunnen we deze keer wel alles goed volgen.

Om  ons kikkerlandje niet te vergeten zijn we afgelopen weekend naar de Dutch Club in Noord Adelaide geweest.  De gemiddelde leeftijd ligt daar normaal gesproken erg hoog. Maar deze keer had een groot aantal NL gezinnen en andere lui die elkaar wel eens ontmoeten via een emigratieforum afgesproken. Het wemelde van de NL kinderen en onze jongens hadden de tijd van hun leven. Het was ineens niet meer zo ingewikkeld om een spelletje uit te leggen.

Wij hebben veel ervaringen uitgewisseld en het is erg leuk om van anderen hun emigratie verhaal te horen. Vaak boeiende verhalen en veel herkenning.

Tot slot heb ik geprobeerd chocovlokken en gestampte muisjes in t Engels te bestellen. (personeel was wel Australisch) En dat is gelukt. Binnenkort neemt Olav ‘t lege pak mee naar school om daar over ons merkwaardige broodbeleg te vertellen.

Kortom we hadden een leuke dag. Maar 1 ding mis ik in ieder geval niet heb ik gemerkt en dat zijn de klokken van Arnemuiden.

 

These days we spend our time making plans and dreaming about our future home.

Because Svens favorite color is blue I asked him while we did the dishes; if you get your own place, will you buy all blue things to put into your house? Sven replied; but then I’ll have an ugly house. I asked him Why? Sven: How would you feel if your whole house was blue?

When we asked Olav what kind of pet he would like to have later. He answered: a beetle because he’ll clean up his own mess.

Everything is about China these days. Because of the Olympics. I sometimes help out with the art lessons and the kids made beautiful kites, fireworks, dragon boats and Chinese characters.  Olav and Sven both had a Chinese Lunch at school with noodles, fried rice, spring rolls and fortune cookies.

We do not want to forget about the Netherlands so we decided to go to the Dutch club in North Adelaide. There were a lot of Dutch families over there. And the boys loved playing with all the other kids. We loved to hear about the stories other imigrated families had. Great stories and very recognizable.

At the end of the day I bought some Dutch food/filling that we put on our sandwiches. We call it crushed mice. But it has nothing to do with mice. (more like castersugar with aniseed...)

We had a great day.

 

 

Ja, ook hier hebben we wel eens regen. Dit weekend vielen er enorme plensbuien uit de lucht. Gepaard met hevige windstoten. Het water in de river Angas is gestegen. Het riet is omvergestroomd en je ziet het water nu weer. Maar we kunnen t bruggetje naar school nog wel oversteken.

We zijn zondag naar Goolwa geweest waar een veel grotere hoge brug is over de river Murray. Toen we daar aankwamen was er juist een demonstratie. Er hingen spandoeken op de brug met teksten als: we need water now, no damn weir, Whats wrong weve RANN outa water has the Penny dropped yet? We hebben er wat rondgekeken.

Ze hadden daar ook longneckturtles. Helaas zitten deze beestjes onder de wormen die zorgen voor aanslag op hun schild. De jongens hebben zulke schildpadden op school al eens moeten schoonmaken. Nu hebben wij ze ook gezien. 

Het is prachtig om te zien dat de Ozzies hun protest kracht bijzetten door daarna een sausage sizzle te houden. Dat hoort er natuurlijk ook bij!

We hebben de brug overgelopen naar de andere kant waar Hindmarsh Island ligt. We waaiden bijna weg, het regende op dat moment niet. En we hadden een prachtig uitzicht.

THOUSANDS of angry River Murray residents braved the cold weather this morning in their fight to release more water into the "parched" river systems.

Organisers said about 10,000 people attended the rally at the Hindmarsh Island Bridge calling for 250gigalitres of water to be immediately released.

They chanted "More water now" and carried signs reading "No water, no jobs, no future, welcome to Goolwa" and "Don't let Goolwa die".

They then held a two minute silence at 11am to highlight their "11th hour bid to save the nation's greatest river".

With lakes water levels up to 0.4m below sea level, residents are concerned about irreversible damage to the environment and the collapse of tourism.

The authority has said there is not enough water in the basin to provide the 300 to 400 gigalitres to restore the lakes to health.

Mayor of the Alexandrina Council Kym McHugh said 250 gigalitres of water had to be released immediately from upstream storages to prevent an environmental disaster in the lower reaches of the river.

"To save the river we need water and we need it now," he said.

"It is available upstream in government and private storages.

"All the politicians have to do is show the will to buy the water and send it downstream."

Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, who spoke at the rally, called for a "truly independent" water authority to take charge of the Murray Darling crisis.

"Decades of mismanagement of the Murray-Darling Basin have resulted in environmental catastrophe and I along with the thousands of concerned South Australians here, am seeing here today," she said.

Independent Senator Nick Xenophon said the Federal Government was destroying the Lower Lakes.

"The lower lakes are gasping for life and what they need now is mouth to mouth but instead the Federal Government is giving them the kiss of death," he said.

Other speakers included Opposition Leader Martin Hamilton-Smith and local residents Henry Jones and Karyn Bradford
