For all ya Tour lovers

Here's an Aussie video of the last day off the Tour the France. Bad quality but it might give you an impression.
What if Evan's had Sastre's team mates and what if Sastre had Evans? What would have happened than? And what if Menchov did?? We'll probably never know.

Sydney

Martin has been to Sydney this weekend. SANY0048He had to work there. But he also had a bit of time to explore the City and have a look at all those places where we've been about 16 years ago. Sydney, that's where it all started! That is where we started our Working Holiday. Where we bought our van at the Kings Cross Car Market. The car with the broken poptop and the van that needed all its tires to be replaced. That loved oil and oil and oil.
Sydney, where we started out in Forbes Ferrace, the backpackers hostel. Where we went for our first trip, to the Blue Mountains. I saw my first eucalyptus tree and did not know the country was full with it. (I still love em though)SANY0056 Flying Foxes in the Botanical gardens

Here's a few pics made by Martin and lyrics by Frankie Davidson ; Have you ever been to see Kings Cross

If you think you've done some travellin', like to say you've been around
That you've seen the sights of Paris or the heart of London town
You might say you dined in Soho, would be mighty hard to toss
Well let me tell you boy, that you just ain't lived until you've seen King's CrossSANY0064Kings Cross

Have you ever been to see King's Cross where Sydney-siders meet
There's a million faces goin' places, walkin' up and down the street
Why tourists everywhere in their troubles do declare
I've seen the world, you can hear 'em cry and I'll bet you a tenna to a conman's why
You won't have seen the lot until the day you die if you haven't been to see King's CrossSANY0059Forbes Terrace

Now let's take the eatin' houses that you find along the way
You might like to dine with a glass of wine or a serve of shrimp by day
Well you can try a spot downunder, you get a three course for a zack
And you can write your will as you pay the bill just in case you don't get backSANY0062Kings Cross

You've got a list of spots to see and you'd like to spend some dough
So you tell the taxi driver just where you'd like to go
You might do a tour of Sydney when in fact it's on the cards
That the place your saw when you climbed aboard is at the road a hundred yards

Monarto

Monarto is an open range zoo. It is a nice zoo but we've seen other zoo's we liked more. Monarto supports a lot of projects to help endangered species. It also got a few native animals walking all over the range. So you can watch a giraffe with a kangaroo or an emu in the background. Weird combination! We loved the cheetah talk. Its great to see that the boys now understand what the keeper says. And this time the boys even asked a few questions in English. We are very proud of them! The cheetah is a beautiful animal! We also saw the African painted dog. Never seen it before. But it really looks like it has got paint thrown all over its fur.

Home Among The Gum Trees

HOME AMONG THE GUMTREES

Words and Music by By B. Brown/W. Johnson

© 1975 MUSHROOM MUSIC PTY LTD
I've been around the world
A couple of times or maybe more
I've seen the sights, I've had delights
On every foreign shore
But when my mates all ask me
The place that I adore
I tell them right away

Give me a home among the gumtrees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, a k-kangaroo
A clothesline out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair

You can see me in the kitchen
Cooking up a roast
Or Vegemite on toast
Just you and me, a cup of tea
And later on, we'll settle down
And go out on the porch
And watch the possums play

Give me a home among the gumtrees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, a k-kangaroo
A clothesline out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair

There's a Safeways up the corner
And a Woolies down the street
And a brand new place they've opened up
Where they regulate the heat
But I'd trade them all tomorrow
For a little bush retreat
Where the kookaburras call

Give me a home among the gumtrees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, a k-kangaroo
A clothesline out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair

Some people like their houses
With fences all around
Others live in mansions
And some beneath the ground
But me I like the bush you know
With rabbits running round
And a pumpkin vine out the back

Give me a home among the gumtrees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, a k-kangaroo
A clothesline out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair

Give me a home among the gumtrees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, a k-kangaroo
A clothesline out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair

Have I got news for you?

We have been to Encountre Bay again this weekend. Its beautiful out there and we’re still hoping to watch a whale some day. Now its the time of year they pass by. We didn’t see any but  we enjoyed the beauty of the rough sea and the coastline. We arrived at Victor Harbor and booked us in for a guided penguin tour at Granite Island. The little penguins come ashore during sunset. These species only live in New Zealand and Australia.

Before the guided tour we went for a walk on the island itself and it is beautiful! And during that walk we got a phonecall: we got the house we wanted to buy!!!! A great place to hear such fantastic news! No whales, but it definately was our lucky day. The penguin tour was a succes too!

This week we had a building inspection and a pest control. There are a few things that need to be done, but that is not a problem, we like renovating!

We are looking forward living in our new house. Our own house, our first in Australia! And we are going to be the proud owners of a more than 100 year old eucalyptus tree.

Adelaide Hills

Yes! Hollidays! Martin took a few days off to spend time with us. On Thursday the weather was bad. So we decided to go to Melba's Chocolate factory. Unfortunately it was more a shop than a factory. DSC00129 DSC00136But we couldn't resist and bought some chocolate. No licorice though . The licorice tasted bad!  We didn't get to spend much time over there because there wasn't a lot to see. So we went for a drive through the Adelaide Hills. DSC00166The Gorge Scenic drive is beautiful. And we also liked the road through the Montacute Heights.

Storm and Strath Park 2

This week we had another storm. In the middle of the night we had to get out of our beds because the recyclebin fell down. All our recycables were immediately spread around the neighbourhood. And the next morning we found out that we had all the recycables of our neighbours in the garden and so on. Luckily now there was enough space in the bin left over to fill it up again.

Indrukwekkend!!! En zo dichtbij! Beduusd liep ik verder naar huis.

This morning after I brought the children to school and after I did some shopping I walked back home along the river. There came  a wild looking dog around the corner. So I decided to walk up the hill and continue my walk along the street. The same time the dog decided he did not want to meet me too and a little bit further he secretly walked up the hill trying to avoid me! Only, this wasn’t a dog! It was a fox and we met after all! He run past me only two meters away. So close! So Big! What an impressive tail he had!

ENGLISH CLASSES  De jongens hebben veel plezier in hun Engelse les. Bakken of knutselen! Kijk maar!

The boys really enjoy their English classes. Olav even tought a Thai and a Phillipinian boy the English alphabet by himself. The lessons are based on the teaching material they get in their own class. On Tuesday they cook or they get art lessons! Here an impression of the things they do:             DSC09846DSC09847 DSC09707Olavs castle DSC09854DragonSvenDSC09855

Anzacs biscuits are most certainly the national biscuit of Australia. Their heritage dates back to the First World War, where on the 25th of April 1915 Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed at Gallipoli. Anzac biscuits (or Soldier's Biscuits as they were originally known) were sent by women back in Australia who were concerned about the nutritional value of the food being supplied to their men by the army. The ingredients for Anzac biscuits were originally rolled oats, sugar, plain flour, coconut, butter, golden syrup or treacle, bi-carbonate of soda and boiling water. Anzac Biscuits now are still as popular as ever and around ANZAC Day, Anzac biscuits are also often used by veterans' organisations to raise funds for the care and welfare of aged war veterans.
